The standout technical feature of Grok 4.6 is its massive 500,000-token context window. That means the model can process very large codebases, long document sets, or multi-step agentic tasks in a single session without losing context.
xAI says Grok 4.6 was specifically optimized for three areas:

There's an important pricing detail worth flagging: the base rate is $2 input / $6 output per million tokens (the fast variant costs twice that), but once a prompt crosses the 200,000-token long-context threshold, the rate doubles to $4 input / $12 output — and that higher rate applies to every token in the request, not just the tokens past the threshold. Teams planning long-context workflows need to factor that into their cost math.
The model is available through Cursor, Grok Build, xAI's own API, OpenRouter, Vercel, and Cloudflare — continuing the same broad-distribution strategy seen with Grok 4.5.
The Grok Family's Rapid Evolution
Grok 4.6 is the latest link in xAI's rapid model iteration throughout the summer. In early July, xAI shipped Grok 4.5, a coding-focused model trained on Cursor data; just a month later, it followed up with Grok 4.6, expanding the context window and deepening agentic capabilities.
Elon Musk announced that Grok 4.7 would follow "in three to four weeks" right after Grok 4.6 shipped — a sign that xAI's development pace remains among the fastest in the industry.
